It seems to me that birthdays get better as you get older. I think this comes down to the combining of a few things: your mounting years offer a certain clarity when it comes to what and how you want to celebrate, you start buying your own gifts and you're probably too old to really remember the celebrations that came before. And so, my birthday this year couldn't have been more perfect. The weather was warm and sunny for what felt like the first time in years of long, wet, cold springs, we had lunch at a sweet and delicious lunch spot far from home and found a neat little antique shop and pretty beach as we wound our way back.
